Emmy Akin is a linguist-ethnobotanist born and raised in the hills of Tuyštak (Chochenyo Ohlone)/ Oyyompille (Northern Sierra Miwok)/ Mount Diablo. She graduated from University of Hawai’i at Mānoa in 2015 with a degree in Linguistics and Ethnobotany, with the intention to make a positive difference in the world of language revitalization and protection of traditional ecological knowledge. Emmy also works with Saphichay both in Oakland, CA and Huancayo, Peru, as well as Diablo For Peace. It is an honor to do work in Native Californian language revitalization, and she aspires to dedicate her life to working with language communities and developing new methods of language education for future generations.
